Women in Games Survey

Wednesday, September 24th, 2008

This is reposted from the IGDA Women Developers mailing list… but would be good for everyone to fill in - I already did my civic duty :-)

A ground breaking study is being undertaken by Julie Prescott, a PhD student, from the University of Liverpool. The research will assist in providing an accurate understanding of the role women currently play in the gaming industry and the problems and opportunities facing current and future recruits. The results of the research will be of use to women’s career development in the industry and for their employers seeking to attract and retain women. In 2006, only 12% of women were employed in the computer games industry.

Canberra BBQ and Games Networking Event

Wednesday, September 3rd, 2008

There will be another canberra women in games networking event run Saturday 25th October 12pm to 4pm. This is a postponement of the september event - we were too busy over the last few weeks to get it organised in time.
This event is an opportunity to meet other people who are in the industry, working as freelancers or who are wanting to get into the industry.
The afternoon will include a BBQ lunch and a tournament of console games where the most notable players of several heats will walk away with prizes donated by 2K Australia. (This may not necessarily just be the winners )
Anyone is invited ( so long as they support women being in the games industry of course ) so bring friends along to enjoy the afternoon with you. Pass this information around to others you think might be interested.
If you want to help with the event in any way then contact me.
The event is being held in the open areas of AIE in watson.
The address is:
Canberra Technology park
49 Phillip Avenue
Watson ACT
Plenty of free parking and AIE is at the left of the building.

Email the info at women in games address to let us know you are coming along  so we can get enough food and drink.
